Follow this link Back............. to find out more!Schelmish are a German drum and pipe group and for those of you that have seen them, the term ‘medieval rave’ seems to fit quite well, but who are they?
In 1999 the band was founded by Dextro, Des Demonia and Rimsbold. In the beginning it was just for fun in order to celebrate the 60th birthday of Des Demonia´s mother in the medieval style in a castle. The squire of Satzvey heard the music and asked them to play at a banquet in his castle. Schelmish went down well and had a lot of fun, so they decided to go on with this kind of music.
Founder members were Dextro, Des Demonia, Rimsbold, Buchanan, Baccata, Morbius, Igerne and Bajonne.
In 2000 First bookings in Satzvey Castle and on other medieval markets. Buchanan, the only bagpiper left the band by the end of 2000, so Rimsbold and Dextro picked up the pipes.
For most of 2000 the band line-up remained unchanged!
In 2001 Even more bookings and the first for Schelmish abroad, in this case in Italy. Fragor joined the band, thus Schelmish could incorporate a big medieval drum set into the band. By the end of the year Bajonne, Morbius and Balitur left the band, as they were offered good jobs.
The line-up for most of 2001 was Dextro, Des Demonia, Rimsbold, Baccata, Fragor, Morbius, Bajonne, Balitur
In 2002 Amsel von Nydeggen, a great German female pipe player joined the band. This year brought more bookings and it was the first time for Schelmish playing support for In Extremo and for Schandmaul. Schelmish decided to acquire their own technical equipment for concerts and had their own clubtour in November 2002 and another gig in a foreign country, this time Switzerland! Schelmish started writing their own tunes and sadly Baccata dropped out of the band because his wife had a baby, thus we see Sakepharus joinining the band.
Line- up for most of 2002 Dextro, Des Demonia, Rimsbold, Baccata, Fragor, Sakepharus, Amsel
2003 Saw the first festival for Schelmish: WGT in Leipzig and a longer club tour in October. Next foreign countries, in this case Denmark and The Netherlands. Lots of medieval markets everywhere in Germany and Schelmish got their first label deal with Curzweyhl and a little weird man called Luzi joined the band.
So the line-up was back up to seven, Dextro, Des Demonia, Rimsbold, Fragor, Sakepharus, Amsel, LuziIn 2004 The tour calendar was galore, plenty of medieval markets, a club tour of 18 days in October, lots of amplified concerts and four festivals: Burgfolk, WGT, Celtic Rock Festival, and Miroque Festival. A few gigs in foreign countries, Denmark, The Netherlands (support for Fiddlers Green), Switzerland, and for the first time England. By the end of 2004 Amsel had to quit the band, because she was burnt out.
Line-up for most of 2004 was Dextro, Des Demonia, Rimsbold, Fragor, Sakepharus, Amsel, Luzi2005 saw Festivals, medieval markets and many concerts, the calendar was packed. Schelmish played in England more often and druids invited them into the Henge. In August Schelmish decided to start with rock medieval music as well and they searched for a bass player. The first rehearsal with Naj O on the bass started in September while Rimsbold and Dextro wrote their own songs in German. Naj O declared he would be a guest musician only for a while, since he is working as a professional backliner.
Regular line up for 2005: Dextro, Des Demonia, Rimsbold, Fragor, Sakepharus, LuziIn 2006 Schelmish left their label and went to Banshee Records, there they released their first rock medieval album called "mente capti". Schelmish went under bookings contract with Extratours. A 15 day tour in march was arranged and they went down well. Seven festivals were played in 2006, Feuertanzfestival formed the highlight as Coliner for In Extremo. Plenty of gigs in foreign countries like Switzerland, Denmark and Sweden, and of course they appeared four times in England; including a short tour for England in October.
Regular line-up: Dextro, Des Demonia, Rimsbold, Fragor, Sakepharus, Luzi2007 saw many changes to the regular line-up as well their music. Sakepharus was lost in time and left the band but was replaced by Descheises and Picus von Corvin. An extra set of drums bought even more dynamics to the percussion section and a new single was released in August. 'Das Moor' couples their signature power pipe melodies with metal E-guitar riffs, backed with semi industrial base and keyboard effects which make this single totally unexpected. It leaves you with a tasty peek into the album to come and reminds you that Schelmish will always keep you on your toes!! By the October of that year the new album 'Wir Wirden Sehen' was released and what an album it is?! Every song is different but with a definite break into predominantly rock with a couple of juicy tit bits written in English. Bonus track 'Rainbow' is a cheeky glance into the pop scene and a side to Schelmish we've never seen before!! On the band front Johnannes stood down from the rock program to continue with life outside the band and was replaced by Sideribus Illustris in the latter part of 2007 and by December; Dschieses had decided to return home to East Germany due to commitments at home.
Regular line-up: Dextro, Des Demonia, Rimsbold, Fragor, Dschieses, Picus, Luzi
This year, 2008, Schelmish's talent has been truly recognised and they have been picked up by well known 'Napalm Records'. This looks to be a good year and Schelmish prove time and again that they can hack the pace!!!
